The UK Matchplay Championship
The UK Matchplay Championship is firmly established as the most popular national event for club golfers in the UK.
The Championship was launched in 1996 to provide the opportunity for club golfers to play in a national matchplay competition.
Pairs and Individual competitions are open to all golfers who are currently club members with a CONGU handicap.
The format of the Championship includes local competition, regional finals and a Grand Final held at Vale Do Lobo, Algarve in January each year.
The Championship is communicated to every single golf club throughout the UK and is promoted and supported by members and club professionals.
In excess of 5,000 golfers from approximately 1,500 different golf clubs are competing in 2012 and the numbers continue to rise each year.
The Matchplay Championship has enjoyed sponsorship support from many leading brands.
In the first thirteen years, the event was known as The Daily Telegraph Wilson Matchplay.
In 2010, it became known as the Volvo Matchplay Championship.
The Championship also attracts and enjoys the support of partners such as Monarch Airlines, Online Golf, Nike, Your Golf Travel and How Did I Do.
The Championship attracts a loyal following with many club golfers participating each year. The high level of interest in the competition is reflected in the volume of traffic to the main website.
